    It's amazing how the modern and sharp Sigma image can be transformed into such a sharp and soft flare. Will your project modifications allow you to use the modernity of the Sigma and also use it for vintage cameras like this? Or will you only be able to use the KOWA-style look once you request a modification?

    Hi @northwest camera, argus lens set is appealing for its speed and price point, when compared to DZOFilm Arles. Do you know if laowa plans to release PL/EF and L mount options? I'd suspect they don't plan to due to the low market demand and profitability forecast. Any perspective you can share? Thanks

    Hi Dominic. Two questions: 1. Can the counterbalance be set to hold the camera in a tilted position? This is what I look for in a counterbalance, rather than any sort of bounce back. 2. Is the side mount system compatible with the standard Manfrotto 501 plates? That's what I use with my Sachleter video heads, and they are cheap and readily available.

    • @robinprobyn1971
      @robinprobyn1971 8 днів тому

      Thats what the counter balance setting is for , as you say , to hold the camera in any tilt angle , not to "bounce back " sort of makes you wonder ..

    • @davidp158
      @davidp158 2 дні тому

      @@robinprobyn1971 I gave this video head a try, but the counter balance was either too light or too stiff to allow holding my camera rigs (14-18 pounds) at a tilt position. It is a very well built video head, but more counter balance settings could have made the difference for my rigs. I imagine a heavier camera rig (20-25 pounds) may be fine on this video head. The fast release tie down knob is a great idea. Unfortunately, it's so large that it's awkward to access on the Flowtech legs. Sirui makes some very nice gear (much nicer than Manfrotto), and this video head is worth looking at.

    You said "There's some things that change from focal length to focal length that we'll get into later." Did I miss where you talk about that? Also, I wish the flashlight tests were separated more so I would have time to examine what's happening before someone's shining that in my eyes. Even at .25 we barely get a chance to look. Thankfully, many of your other tests aren't so flashy. Good review, though I don't generally think of clinical with these lenses because the transitional areas to out of focus are really something special. But yeah, sharp. I don't generally identify as bokehlicious, but with these lenses I could see taking it all off and shooting wide open all the time. NDs for sure. I'll be interested to see what V35s look like. I could see coming down and renting a set when they're available.

      Hey!! We totally forgot to stick that in. 3 things about the DZO set. Wide open sharpness varies a bit and same with CA. Similar to sigmas. That’s not the terminology used in the cinema world. The two common terminology is “Large Format” or “Vista Vision”. Also vista vision is not the same as 35mm full frame. It’s larger than it. So yes the terminology is the right choice.

    • @NorthwestCameraCo
      @NorthwestCameraCo 17 днів тому

      Vista vision is a larger image circle than full frame. If you were to put these on a true full frame 16:9 sensor they would have better performance at the edges than putting them on a wider vista vision sensor. They are close but one is a larger. There are some FF lenses that don’t perform well or even vignette when you go that extra little bit larger.

    I'm about to watch your summary after the test footage… My two cents: With some experience and insight, the Sigma primes are fantastic, especially now that the data is standard. They look great, and the data is handy for VFX. The Tokina Vista line, in its various flavors, is exceptional. Now that they have the Vista-P version and you are creating a V35 version, all the bases are covered. People mention they are heavy, but their weight aligns with similar lenses. The DZO lenses are pretty, but if I were renting or buying, I’d spend more and get what I want. Like I said, my 2 cents. I have not had the opportunity to work with them, which could change my mind.

    • @CaseyPreston
      @CaseyPreston Місяць тому

      I have Classics and they are the same optical formula as the the Cines so they are and f/1.4. You just lost so much light due to all of the internal reflections. One thing this also creates is quite a heavy vignette with a noticeable amount more light transmission in the center of the image and a general color wash that can occur if there is a bright saturated color entering the frame. They are quite fun to play with.
